SHADOWLAMP
Minimalism has been praised and criticized for years, but still very much appreciated in the design world. But we rarely adapt the real
minimalism. As long as we are still designing and purchasing objects, instead of having the strict minimal environment. My interpretation is that what people appreciate about being minimal design, is linked with the visual minimalism. Which means, that a pure visual
Interior is what we appreciate as a Minimal interior.
Phase 1 The Greyscale lamp
The first research on the minimalism topic is about extracting one of the element from the minimal ingredient as the inspiration. I chose thus the color aspect.
If having less color is one of the requirement to have minimal design , what if the color simply doesn’t exist, that our surroundings loses their color. We are familiar with black and white images for decades, but never had the experience of being in such environment while light is
involved, therefore, my first attempt to the issue is to create a light that removes the color of our surroundings.
Phase 2 The Shadowlamp
The development of the greyscale lamp, is what I tried to interpret minimal design of nowadays.
First the core functional meaning of minimal , is linked with the power consumption but maximum output, and the minimum size of the
object, thus the least material.
Apart from the functional aspect, the continuation of turning our surrounding in black and white, I propose a lamp that creates visual
decoration for the whole environment. People purchase objects to decorates their domestic environment, but according to minimalism, we are supposed to have the least objects. So I want to propose un-existing decoration, which only exist as shadows, as a minimal decoration to the interior.
The objective is to use a small object to decorate the whole domestic environment, when the shadow replaces the physical
decoration
